Visaginas Community Foundation was established in December 2002. Institutional support from the Baltic American Partnership Program (BAPP) enabled strengthening of the organization during the first year of its activity. In 2003 a number of activities were carried out with the support from BAPP, namely, a logo for the foundation was prepared, a brochure about foundation was published in three languages, several articles were published about events that were organized by the foundation, a database in the website was prepared, a name for a website was purchased, technical module for the website was initiated, and a digital photo camera was purchased etc. A seminar “Fundraising: methods and opportunities” was organized for the Foundation board members and leaders from local non-governmental organizations.
In 2003 the Foundation was involved in an active project-based work. World Bank’s representatives in Lithuania supported a project that had the following directions: education on civic and social dialogues’ forms and methods, and strengthening motivation of national minorities and NGOs to participate in local activities in communities of Visaginas and Lentvaris. The project is being carried out jointly with Lithuanian Association of Adult Education. Visaginas Municipality Administration has supported projects “A Fair of Social Projects” and “Everybody has a Right to Do Good Things”.
A project “A Fair of Social Projects” was carried out jointly with Visaginas Community Development Council (VCDC). During its meetings VCDC members indicated main priorities for the proposals and confirmed a Public Commission to evaluate the proposals. More than 60 participants and guests took part in the Fair. 14 Visaginas NGOs have presented 29 project proposals. Recommendations to support proposed projects that gained public recognition were presented to Visaginas Municipality Council. For the Fair Visaginas private company “Guboja” has produced 3 stands with rubber cover free of charge. After the event the stands were passed to Visaginas Municipality Administration to use for public events. Four non-governmental organizations that participated in the Fair were provided with assistance in preparing and submitting project proposals to national and international donors.
With a support from Visaginas Municipality Council and Baltic American Partnership Program the Foundation has organized and carried out 5 charity actions, dedicated to attract funds and distribute them for charity. During the actions philanthropy ideas were spread in local community. In frames of the philanthropy events the activities of Center of Physical education and sports as well as public youth organizations from club “Orbita” were supported. Also funds were collected to support youth organizations that presented their ideas in the Fair of Social Projects.
A charity feast was organized and carried out. More than 120 people participated in the event.
In 2003 Visaginas Community Foundation signed a partnership agreement with public organization „”Gyvenimo Sala“. Jointly with the organization the Foundation organized and carried out charity action dedicated to providing special equipment from Sweden to Visaginas disabled people as well as Visaginas medical institutions and schools. The Foundation has reached an agreement with Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant to take over old, but still proper to use computer equipment and pass it for charity.
Foundations’ board members had 6 working meetings. They formulated and adopted a vision, mission, motto, and principles for the organization. Also an accountant procedure for anonymous donors’ funds and main fundraising strategy directions were formulated. An expert from Center of organizations development assisted in formulating foundations’ principles and mission. An attention was drawn to the results of NGO Forum results concerning NGO support priorities.
Local media broadly covered foundation’s activities.
Articles about a Fair of Social Projects were published in newspaper „”Respublika“(in Russian) and journal „”Energy News“(in English). The journal is published and distributed among Lithuanian ministries and embassies.
Two Foundation’s board members have finished a six seminar training “Management of non-governmental organizations”. The training seminars were provided to 15-20 Lithuanian organizations by Center of Organizations Development.
Carrying out its activities the foundation has established partnerships with the following NGOs, institutions and enterprises: Music school of C. Sasnauskas, state enterprise “Visaginas auto transport center”, Culture center “Draugyste”, youth club “Orbita”, Children creativity center, private companies “Guboja”, “Gandras”, Visaginas outpatient clinic, the department of social support in Visaginas municipality administration, hotel “Aukstaitija”.
The Foundation was also supported on charity basis by a private company “DKD”, “Sugardas”, Visaginas technology and business professional education center. With the support of private bodies a calendar for 2004 with a foundation’s logo was published.
